Maple Bear Stories of Giving Back in Tough Times
It is no surprise that 2020 has been an extremely challenging year filled with endless uncertainties and concerns impacting the health, safety, education, and livelihoods of our family and friends.
COVID-19, international politics, and severe weather systems have uprooted our lives and our world will never be the same.
The pandemic has truly impacted all of us. And for the most vulnerable and marginalized populations in our communities, the events of this year have created additional problems as they face more adversity than ever before.
From Adversity Comes Strength and Action
At Maple Bear Global Schools, we believe education can bring positive change in the world.
Our goal is to turn a whole generation of students on to the joy of giving back. We do this by imbuing our future leaders with a strong sense of social justice and global citizenship.
This year was an exceptional year with remarkable stories of Giving Back at our schools.
Our students, teachers, families and school owners have stepped up to the challenge 2020 has brought on and have continued to role model the importance of being active in the community with kindness, compassion and generosity.
We are amazed by the actions taken by so many of our schools this year.
The Terry Fox Tradition Continues
In 2018, together with Maple Bear Brazil and the Terry Fox Foundation, we rolled out the Terry Fox Thanksgiving event.
This year due to COVID-19 health and safety restrictions, it required extra effort in time and energy to even consider and act on keeping the Terry Fox tradition going.
Five schools in Brazil (Maple Bear Águas Claras, Maple Bear Brasilia, Maple Bear Fortaleza, Maple Bear Guarulhos, and Maple Bear Maceió) and two schools in the USA (Maple Bear Justin Road and Maple Bear University Drive in Dallas, Texas) demonstrated their Terry Fox spirit and raised money for the #WhatsYour40 campaign, in honour of the 40th anniversary of Terry’s Marathon of Hope.

Maple Bear Singapore “Making Dreams Come True” Charity Event
Maple Bear Singapore truly banded together and raised over $100,000 for the Children’s Make A Wish Foundation and the Children’s Wishing Well in Singapore this October.
They did a variety of activities that involved the students at every step: sold goodie bags at their Tuck Shop, baked cookies, made cupcakes and raisin rock buns.

Acts of Kindness That Help Save Lives
The Philippines struggled with Typhoon Ulysses and some of the most severe floods on record had a devastating impact in central Vietnam.
Schools in both these countries acted quickly and gathered massive amounts of donated food, water and clothing for those communities impacted.

Proud Of Our Schools for Embodying The Spirit of Maple Bear
Despite the challenges we have faced in 2020, we are proud of these generous acts.
At Maple Bear, we want our students to understand and embody what it means to be an active, global citizen.
With the help of their teachers and support of their families, they are well on their way to building a more compassionate world.
